Montgomery Kiwanis Newsletter

March 5, 2010

News on Upcoming meetings:

I wasn’t at the last meeting and can’t report on it but can provide some news on future meetings and events.

Upcoming Meeting on March 10

Bill Siegel called to say he was on his way to Florida but had arranged a speaker for this meeting.  Her name is Ellen Gieszl and she will talk about River City.  It sounded like something from the Music Man “We’ve got trouble, right here in River City”.  But it is about the Hamilton County River City Correctional Facility that is an alternative to jail for non-violent felony offenders.  It provides a lot more help and rehabilitation than jail does.  Ms. Gieszl needs a ride to the meeting, and I will arrange a ride for her.  I will not be at the meeting since my wife and I will be baby sitting in Tucson, Arizona next week.  Raffels will provide food for the meeting so you don’t need to bring your own.

Division Meeting March 11

The Division 7 meeting will be at Buca di Beppo in Rookwood Commons at 6:00pm on March 11.  Let Lynn McNay know if you plan to attend.

Meeting March 24

Ray Miller from the Montgomery arts Commission will attend this meeting to talk with us about the Art Show.  I wrote a letter to Cheryl Hilvert telling her that Montgomery Kiwanis was not going to do the Art Show any more.  I thanked the City for their help in the past and said if the Arts Commission or another group wanted to do an art show we would be willing to assist them.  I called Ray Miller, and he said the Arts Commission was doing an Artists in the Park show May 3 at Swaim park featuring ceramics and also antique appraisals by Mark Mallette.  He said they were interested in a fall art event for youth artists.

Bob Bick will also give final instructions for the Easter Egg Hunt April 3.

Easter Egg Hunt April 3

Bob Bick is stuffing 864 eggs for the egg hunt.  Kiwanis members should be at Montgomery Park at 8:00AM.  The rope will be dropped at 10:00AM and we should be all done by 11:00.   We need to get publicity out for this event.  I will notify the Montgomery Moms immediately.  Bob said the construction at the park would be completed by April 3.

Future Meetings:
